Consensus definition: Sequence of reactions through which carbon dioxide is converted to organic forms by photosynthesis or other chemical transformations, recycled through the biosphere (including incorporation into rocks, minerals or other geological materials), and ultimately returned to its original state through respiration, decomposition or combustion.
