CARBON SEQUESTRATION: MANAGING FORESTS IN UNCERTAIN TIMES
12 February 2014 |  Valentin Bellassen & Sebastiaan Luyssaert

…In the past few decades, the world’s forests have absorbed as much as 30% (2 petagrams of carbon per year; Pg C year−1) of annual global anthropogenic CO2 emissions1 — about the same amount as the oceans. Two-thirds of forests are managed. Read more>> www.nature.com

SHORTCUT TO CARBON DIOXIDE PLASTICS HOLDS SEQUESTRATION PROMISE- Elinor Richards |  March 7, 2014

Japanese scientists have cleared a significant hurdle in using carbon dioxide as a chemical feedstock and made a polymer that contains almost a third of the gas by weight. The team discovered a way to make the reaction conditions for the addition of carbon dioxide to an olefin more favourable, which they claim could make the large-scale production of carbon dioxide-based plastics possible. WHAT SOURCES OF CARBON DIOXIDE CAN IT BE APPLIED TO?

The figure below shows the portion of CO2 that is currently being captured from power plants and other industrial facilities and the portion that is extracted by production wells from natural CO2 bearing formations in the United States. Read more>> epa.gov/climatechange

WHERE CAN CAPTURED CARBON DIOXIDE BE STORED?

After capture, carbon dioxide (CO2) is compressed and then transported to a site where it is injected underground for permanent storage… Read more>>

If we believe in climate change and we want to stop carbon from going up in the air, we have to decide what we’re going to do with it.  Read more or watch the video>>

What is it exactly?  Well, sequestration basically is another sense to a word for storage.  How much carbon can be stored in different sinks? Read more or watch the video>>

Carbon sequestration.  There’s a fixed amount of carbon in the world and the trick is getting it in the right place and keeping it out of that wonderful little atmosphere that allows us to live on this planet. Read more or watch the video>>
